"A few minutes before noon, the German FA (DFB) today announced that national team captain Michael Ballack will not play in the World Cup in South Africa. "This is the result of a magnetic resonance imaging, which was performed this Monday in Munich", the DFB wrote. "The tomography showed a rupture of the cruciate ligament and a partial rupture of the syndesmosis at his right ankle, which will be immobilized in a cast." Ballack suffered the injury on Saturday when he was foulded during the FA Cup final. According to the DFB, he will take up training again in eight weeks at the earliest."
